The one who acts out of a compulsive behaviour is truely worth being labelled a cattle. Someone who is driven by opinions conposed by someone else,, sees others  from an imagery drawn by someone else, he is in real sense a cattle .  The one who cannot overcome the sweeping perception of his mind to uncontrollably see every other person as belonging to a certain malevolent category , such a person genuinely is the one who deserves to labelled as " a cattle" .

  The single biggest problem that I see in the courseware on leadership and managerial style , particularly the caselets type, like "Capt Dayal- old man with valve gloves" and "Chief Engineer Swamy , man with iron fist" , is that these caselet studies entrap the minds of the learners instead of helping it to open out. A _* Stop Work Obligation *_ cannot co-exist with the * _Refused to Obey Orders_ * What it means is that if the superior is more of a Discipline-psychopathic person, then every event where a shipboard personnel has acted his power to call STOP_WORK because he felt something was unsafe, the superior Disciplinarian-person will rather see the act of STOP-WORK as a REFUSAL to obey orders. He will then relay the message to the management, and his immediate seniors, that an act of INDISCIPLINE has occurred from that person. So, here is the dilemna of an organization, where the officer staff, largely of *Clerk* set-up, not much familiar with the Industrial practices. It will rather go after the person who had acted his good judgment to save the loss of his own life, or maybe the property of the organization, or of someone else.

There is something about safety which I have learnt after so many years of seafaring . That , the very concept of safety by its nature is pitched against the business profits. Look at all the safety items you see around yourself on the Merchant ships. The lifeboats, the liferafts, the EPIRBS, the SARTs, ...you name it, everything. Have you ever considered the worth of these items from the point of view of a finance manager? If you ever do, you will notice that all of these items are a waste of money, a reduction in the profits of the business. The challenge of all the argument that come to promote the cause of Safety is that they deal in the imaginary and unseen, unheard events for the finance manager and other non-seagoing people. So it is always difficult to argue out how something is important, particularly when the argument have to contest their battle against the business profits by using scenarios which they may have hardly experienced from the comforts of their offices...
