The Normalization of Dishonesty in Contemporary International Diplomacy
The worst thing that has happened to the field of international diplomacy in recent times is the arrival of right-wing groups into governance in many countries across the world.
Right-wing leaders have contributed to making international diplomacy more casual and inconsistent. It has become increasingly normal for leaders to say, conduct, and present one position on international platforms, while expressing something entirely different to their domestic audiences on the same issue.
In short, they have normalized dishonesty in international diplomacy.
Right-wing groups across the world are often fringe elements within their respective societies. Their existence and survival have largely depended on portraying themselves as being on the winning or dominant side at all times. To achieve this, they have frequently resorted to unethical practices such as spreading falsehoods and staging large-scale narratives to influence public perception.
This has led to a significant portion of the population being misled, resulting in the acceptance of policies and decisions that may pose serious risks to global security.
