Devnagari Script , the fourth most widely used script in the world
Devanagari script is the fourth most widely used script in the world, following Latin, Chinese, and Arabic! (Yes, Hindutva supporters might not like it, but for the time being, considering the assault from the Tamilians, please accept it! 😺😁)
By the way, what does "Devanagari" mean, as used in the name of the script- Devanagari ?
I know many of you might be tempted to think that "Devanagar" must refer to some place in ancient India, with historians having found connections to the use of this script.
You're wrong!
"DEVANAGARI" in the name of the script is a referential term, which, in ancient India, was used for any place considered an urban or mega city.
Yes! DEVANAGARI simply meant " Bada Shehar " (big city)!
So, the language spoken in the large cities of ancient India had a script for writing, and historians found that, depending on the kingdom or region, there were many languages, but all of them shared the same script for writing. This is what historians called the DEVANAGARI script.
