Many of the ritual practices within  Hindu faith have originated in later times, originating from beliefs , sometimes in mythology and sometimes time-bound customs that developed in society.

 For example, the idea that the Rakhi tying ceremony is strictly between a brother and sister relationship, and not between husband and wife relationship, this has likely entered in practice from that popular story of Akbar and a Rajput princess.

Similarly, I believe that the practice of doing fireworks during Diwali is a time-occasioned tradition and is not authentically native to the Hindu faith.

,the color splashing of Holi , also, does not seem to be a natively Hindi practice.

In egal history of our country, cow slaughter for Muslims was banned by the court long ago, in the 60s, I think, based on the logical argument that such a practice is not strictly essential for Muslims according to scriptural dictates from the Quran or Hadith.

This particular legal argument has given rise to the notion that practices not fundamentally required by religious beliefs can be modified based on the needs of the hour. 

Consequently, mischievous elements in society often attempt to overthrow the logic established by the courts by promoting fallacious stories and comparisons. The perception of imbalance and injustice created by this is used to garner political support for winning elections.

Naturally, when they come to power, they too recognize and honor the needs of the hour, espousing slogans like "Save Water" or "Plant Trees to Save the Environment" during Holi and Diwali, but in a toned-down manner.
